A Little Bit About Me

Welcome to Mommy's Got Class, which I hope will be an outlet to share thoughts and experiences relating to early childhood education, taking courses as an adult and parenting a preschooler.  A little background:  I am a Head Start Teacher and the mother of one very precocious and energetic two year old girl.  Ana keeps me on my toes and teaches me more about myself each day than any vision quest could accomplish in a year.

As I write this, the calendar informs me that there is just one short week left before I report back to school for the coming school year.  I face this fact with a mix of wonder and dread.  I am called to teach.  My summer, especially the past few weeks, has been filled with organizing materials and plans for upcoming projects.  I simply can't shut off that part of my being, no matter if the calendar and weather announce the arrival of Summer.  However, as the summer winds to a close, I realize that starting a new school year means an end to lazy days at home with my sweet girl.  No more dive bomb cuddle attacks as she runs from one activity to another... no more letting her sleep as she pleases and direct her own schedule.  Starting tomorrow, we phase back in Benjamin Franklin's "Early to bed, early to rise..." rule.  Sigh.  An unwelcome reminder that the world doesn't revolve around our little bubble of chaos and happiness.

So, beginning tomorrow, I will gently prod munchkin out of bed and tempt her with whatever treats are neccessary (judge all you like) to ensure that she and I can greet this change with the best attitudes possible.  In addition, I plan to steal as many cuddles and as much sugar (did I mention that we're Southern?) as I can possibly get.
